Kel’s whole world is overthrown in less than a day. She is pulled away from her family and her brother whom she loves above all. Who is she and where does she belong? It is traditionally only boys who are taught at Irvs fortress, but Kel still gets to learn the art of sword and healing with herbs. She finds love and looks towards the future with reassurance, until a new war threatens against the same enemy who previously killed her people and still is chasing her.
King Jalpesh knew what he did when he attacked the forest in late fall. It would have been more honest and upright with a seizure during the summer. I kept on running and rushed forward on top of the resilient branches of the trees. I usually loved the feeling of speed and freedom. At times I slowed pace and touched the trees with my hands. Above the areas where I now found myself in life still continued as usual. It did not feel good to leave the northern part of the forest unprotected, but I felt I had no choice. Should we have the slightest chance of changing our fate must all of us fight side by side. For many of the older it was hundreds of years ago since they held in arms last time. Practice had been needed for most of us. Suddenly there was so little time. The closer I came to the south the clearer I felt every strike. Each ax that hit a tree felt in both body and soul. I could feel the panic that was almost paralyzing.
